Water-Based Work 2006-2011
The years 2006-2011 represent a transitional phase for my artwork. In 2006 I made the last pieces at my D.U.M.B.O. workspace (which I gave up in 2007). After this followed a period of several years of working in my Brooklyn Heights apartment. Water-based paintings, primarily in gouache, tended to be smaller, owing to a lack of space. Regardless of this limitation, however, I was able to continue a development of imagery that I might not have done otherwise. It was, among other things, an opportunity to focus on easy-to-render visual themes. In retrospect, the work of this period may have played an important role for paving the way to my larger watercolors of 2012 and beyond.
