This group of sketches represents a small sample of a larger body of quickly executed imagery. The objective here is to create possible points-of-departure for works in oil or watercolor. In such a process I intentionally keep these types of images rough or unfinished. By doing this I may establish a certain openness for potential new features. And any refinements or further developments will be worked out in the mediums and processes of a final piece. In opting for this multi-stage method, a piece can retain a freshness in the characteristics of the medium and its surface qualities. It also can allow for a more efficient use of materials.
